Montel, a global leader of high-density mobile storage shelving system solutions for office, institutional and industrial applications, in collaboration with LDS Group USA (Library Design Systems), an Authorized Montel Distributor serving Texas and Oklahoma, is pleased to announce the completion of the library off-site high bay storage systems project for the Mary Couts Burnett Library at Texas Christian University (TCU) in Fort Worth, Texas.

To address a need for more study space in the Mary Couts Burnett Library, TCU planned to relocate some of the books to an off-site storage facility a few miles from campus. The plan would move 800,000 materials, including books, bound periodicals and archives, which constituted about two-thirds of all materials housed in the library.

Inspired by the Harvard Depository model, the off-site items are contained in a high-density storage system, in which the materials are shelved in open cardboard box trays based on size rather than subject matter or call number. By combining a state-of-the-art construction with a temperature and humidity controlled archival-quality storage environment, the off-site storage facility actually keeps books and items better preserved in a cost-effective manner.

Recently, the Montel Team was awarded a contract to furnish, deliver and install new stationary high bay high-density storage units. More specifically, Montel supplied its HI-BAY™ off-site high-bay storage shelving for archival & book depository storage. ISO 14001:2004 and ISO 9001:2008 certified, having a minimum of 30-years experience in the continuous manufacture of shelving systems, Montel provided single source responsibility, meaning all elements of the shelving components would be supplied by Montel.

“We are very pleased with the successful completion of this complex and challenging off-site library storage project,” mentioned Joey P. Boudreau, Marketing Director at Montel.” “With our distributor LDS Group USA, our team’s commitment to the project ensured TCU a state-of-the-art high bay storage system solution, meeting the storage and retrieval needs, and providing more collaborative workspaces for students at the Mary Couts Burnett Library.”

Texas Christian University is a private institution that was founded in 1873. It has a total undergraduate enrollment of 8,456, its setting is suburban, and the campus size is 277 acres. The Mary Couts Burnett Library provides students and faculty access to over 1.5 million books and audio-visual materials and over 79,000 current journals, electronically and in paper. The Library has been a depository for federal documents since 1916 and participated in the Texas depository library program for more than 60 years. Portions of the U.S. documents collection date as far back as the eighteenth century. The library was designated a European Union Documentation Centre in 1996.
