As the nation’s leading maritime museum, Mystic Seaport is located in Mystic, Connecticut. With many rare and historic artifacts and boats, Mystic Seaport offers a look at America’s historic connection and relationship with the sea. Its 17 acres on the historic Mystic River include a 19th century coastal village with historic ships from the once great Yankee fleet, a preservation shipyard and museum exhibits. With 300,000 yearly visitors and the world’s largest collection of maritime photographs, the museum recently celebrated its 75th anniversary.
For this highly renowned historical maritime museum, Montel’s custom-designed engineered storage solution involved the supply and installation of Montel’s SmartShelfä 4-Post Hybrid Shelving and Aetnastakä Cantilever Library Shelving mounted on Montel’s high-density mobile storage systems. More specifically, in order to improve and optimize Mystic Seaport’s storage environments, Montel provided two large WIREDä high-density powered mobile storage systems, one installed in the public access G. W. Blunt White Library and the other installed for the Archives Centre, designed with 80-foot carriages for maximum capacity. Three Mobilex high-density mechanical assist mobile systems were installed to optimize space utilization and upgrade storage areas.
To house the museum’s Regular Collection Books, Periodicals, Manuscripts and Rare Books, Montel’s WIRED offers inherent design flexibility, unique storage configurations, and state-of-the-art safety and security features.
With an ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability while focusing on green-building initiatives that contribute to a more sustainable workspace environment, for its stationary and mobile shelving systems, Montel applied powder coating finishing that is durable, high-quality and non-off gassing, meeting the museum conservation requirements.
