More specifically, Montel’s Patent No. 7,645,000 is described as a braking device immediately stopping any carriage movement while a user or an object is in the aisle, where the handle-locking device has not previously been engaged. A toe-level kick plate engages a gravity-activated mechanism, which stops Montel’s full-length torque-resistant shaft rotation thus, any carriage movement at the same time. The braking mechanism resets itself upon removal of the pressure on the kick plate.

Montel’s Mobile Storage Unit Braking System is available with manual or mechanical carriages. Full-length floor-level safety bar on both sides of the aisle will stop carriage movement anywhere in the module when as little as 1.5 lbs (6.7 N) of pressure is applied on the safety bar.
