University of Arkansas Turns to Montel's Modular and progressive Library Storage Systems for Greater Capacity and Better Accessibility.

Challenge

At the University of Arkansas, three out of every four books in its library collection live in the library annex, a storage facility that strives to be so much more.

As is the case with many libraries around the world, growing their collections and adapting to new demands in the digital age, the University of Arkansas library annex needed a way to safely store its collection. At the same time, library staff had to create a storage system that made access to these off-site resources as easy as pulling books right off the shelves in the main stacks.

Solution

The University of Arkansas selected static HI-BAY shelving, as strong as it is versatile. Although the shelves themselves are endlessly customizable, the university library staff chose a simple but effective add-on to their new high-density industrial shelves: a wall-length fixed art rack, where the school could curate and protect its burgeoning collection of artwork and framed photography.

Objective

Having used our shelving in the past, Carolyn Henderson Allen, dean of the University of Arkansas libraries, expected Montel to deliver on the promise of optimized and highly functional storage space for her annex. The results speak for themselves.

Product description

HI-BAY shelving can reach heights of up to 35 feet and hold as much as 800 lb per shelf. Without the aid of special tools or hardware, any library worker can single-handedly remove or adjust shelves as needed. What else could a 21st-century library annex ask for other than the freedom to quickly and easily change with the times?

Benefits

Numbers don’t lie: With Montel’s HI-BAY shelving, the University of Arkansas can store 1.7 million volumes, with space to spare. If they do decide to expand, they can add shelving for an additional 800,000 books.

Knowledge should never be locked away in an off-site facility. Explore your options for making your library storage more accessible by reaching out to your local Authorized Montel Distributor.

Testimonial

When we looked at the names of the companies that were under consideration, I knew that Montel has developed a strong reputation in other libraries that I have worked at before. We have used Montel shelving so it was a no brainer.
