Montel, a pioneer of high-density mobile storage shelving system solutions, is pleased to announce that it has been selected by PLANO Construction Inc. to provide high bay metal storage shelving for the new Library and Archives Canada Collection Storage Facility in Gatineau, Quebec.

Awarded to PLANO Construction by Pubic Works and Government Services Canada, this $17.7 million infrastructure project will allow Library and Archives Canada to house the preservation and newspaper collections in a high-density shelving system, with a suitable environment to better protect Canada’s published heritage.

“We are thrilled to have been selected by PLANO Construction to provide storage shelving for the new Collection Storage Facility,” said Jérôme Doucet, Vice President Sales & Marketing of Montel. “Having supplied several innovative high-density storage solutions to Library and Archives Canada over the years, this is an exciting opportunity for Montel. With our developed expertise and global project experience, we are confident in assisting PLANO to greatly increase storage capacity and allow Library and Archives Canada to improve the storage conditions of their collections in their new storage facility.”

For this collection storage facility, Montel’s multimillion-dollar scope in the project will involve the design, fabrication and installation of a complete, engineered full height, six post structural storage shelving system. While supplying all components, the storage shelving system will be shop-fabricated and factory finished. Manufactured from roll formed structural steel and bent shapes, components will include supports, framing, cross bracing, decking, end panels, shelves, and guards.

“Being selected by PLANO Construction to provide our optimal storage solution to Library and Archives Canada strengthens our position as a global leader in the storage shelving industry,” mentioned Yves Belanger, Canadian National Sales Manager at Montel. “For this new collection storage facility, we look forward in offering PLANO Construction our complete support and contribute to the success of this important project.”

The mandate of Library and Archives Canada is to preserve the documentary heritage of Canada for the benefit of present and future generations, and to be a source of enduring knowledge accessible to all, contributing to the cultural, social and economic advancement of Canada. In addition, Library and Archives Canada facilitates co-operation among communities involved in the acquisition, preservation and diffusion of knowledge, and serves as the continuing memory of the Government of Canada and its institutions.
